Some do it just to kill some time in between meetings and since by and large the readings are upbeat and almost always positive, there is little harm to the individual user. On the flipside of the experience is the occurrence when free fortune and tarot readings predict disaster and there is precious little that appears to stand in the way of making this kind of prediction come true.

There is always that moment of panic when the death card appears of the devil card makes an appearance, but when either of them are coupled with perhaps the queen of coins or other some such imagery, the outlook might be downright dismal. In such instances it pays to remember to stay calm and focus on the fact you have at hand. Many times the free fortune and tarot readings you receive online are done with the help of a computer generated card generator. There is not human actually making the cards move or reading them for an interpretation.

Instead, the card values are randomly picked and the interpretation is somewhat generic. You will find that there is a distinct lack of details in these kinds of online readings. Keep in mind that this kind of computer generated reading is much the same that the computer generated slot machines function: it is a completely random assortment of cards for which a meaning has been preprogrammed into the computer application software. To this end, these readings are highly suspect and although in the most generic sense they may have some bearing on the life you are living right now, you could derive just as much meaning from a roll of the dice.

Free fortune and tarot readings give you what you pay for: a free ride for carnival style entertainment. To have a truly personalized reading done, it is crucial that you plan on spending at least a bit of money. Just like a counselor or a spiritual advisor, those who use divination in an attempt to help others understand their lives and choices better also seek to make a living from their efforts. Otherwise, they would have to be online from dusk till dawn and back again for no pay and not opportunity to make a living! As you can see, this is not a feasible arrangement.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Free Tarot Card Meanings for the Hanged Man

Free Tarot Card Meanings for the Hanged Man

In addition to the devil and the death card, the tarot card depicting the hanged man gives pause to many a querent who sees the card’s imagery for the very first time. No matter how often the symbolism of the cards – as opposed to the face value – is pointed out, the fact that many a truth seeker who might have gotten a reading for the first time is a bit unsettled cannot be denied. Thus, if you are getting your reading for the first time or even for free, tarot card meanings should be read up on ahead of time to avoid nervousness or false impressions from clouding your judgment and ability to focus your energies on presenting your questions.

Counting as the 12th card of the Major Arcana, the hanged man in old days was referred to as the traitor, but this flew directly in the face of some of the symbolism and entirely discounted the divine aspects of the symbolism. The hanged man card is not unique in the need for modifying cards, but it is somewhat unique in that it may notate either a positive or an entirely negative slant on your actions. For example, its appearance may point to sacrifice or even patient acceptance of aspects related to life, a particular situation, or even the world such as it appears.

On the other hand, the hanged man card may also point to your somewhat misguided passivity in a time when you needed to act or should be doing something other than waiting or simply giving up. It is generally accepted practice that the hanged man encourages the querent to make a personal sacrifice and in so doing promises a new perspective to the person willingly letting go of something that is of value. Mind you, this is not necessarily something tangible or fiscally valuable but it may be a sacrifice of time, patience, or even temper!

Do not be fooled into thinking that when getting a reading for free, tarot card meanings are somehow different from the way they would be if you were a paying customer. Although there might be some unscrupulous card readers who may for personal gain skew the reading, but by and large those who accept the responsibility of connecting to the spiritualist realm with the cards refuse to be for hire in this manner. Enjoy your reading and look on the hanged man not with dread, but instead see him with excitement in that he promises to bring about a change.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Interpreting Tarot Cards in a Three Card Spread

Interpreting Tarot Cards in a Three Card Spread

Understanding the meanings of the various cards is easily accomplished and many an aspiring tarot reader has either mastered the art of reciting the symbolism associated with the cards or at least keeps a cheat sheet nearby which makes it certain that the overall connotation is not skewed. On the other hand, putting together the meanings of the cards in the form of an interpretation is a lot harder than it looks. By and large, interpreting tarot cards is a skill that requires practice and an innate ability of removing one’s self from the process of construing their meaning for another person.

Take for example the skill required when interpreting tarot cards in a three card spread: it is well known that the first card stands for the past, while the middle card denotes the present and the third card speaks of the future. The reader must require the questioner to come to the table with a very specific question in mind. Failure to do so will result in a generic spread of cards that may tangentially refer to the issues the questioner is facing, but more likely than not present a rather odd jumble that leaves the reader in the dark and may actually lead to a more haphazard interpreting of the cards than a bona fide response.

A three card spread involving an eight of clubs as the past is a rather astonishing card in that it speaks of an action that may be taken, yet when interpreting tarot cards it is always a good idea to see how this past may be seen against the backdrop of the questioner’s personality, and thus this surprising card may actually indicate a life filled with the desire for swift action and an overall zest for living. When the present day card is the ace of cups, it appears as though all is going according to plan. The vivacious individual is rewarded with a blessing that is imminent but at the same time it requires specific action.

When the third card in this spread is the judgment, it may appear a bit like a letdown. After all, there is precious little action in this judgment but instead more a matter of quiet discernment. Interpreting tarot cards now requires the reader to hone in on the questioner’s direct query and it may be by virtue of this background information that the meaning may be vetted. In this case, the third card points toward the need to reconcile a vivacious past with a lost contact in the future -- perhaps a missed opportunity at love or friendship – and then the second card superimposes the success that will be granted by the third.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

How to Get Results With Free Tarot Card Readings

How to Get Results With Free Tarot Card Readings

With the advent of the Internet and its daily proliferation into more and more venues, the lists for free tarot card readings online abound. In some cases it is a business that is seeking to attract new consumers to its website and as such it has realized that the one word in the English language that is certain to attract many onlookers is “free.” In other cases it is a hobbyist who is seeking to propagate the knowledge of the tarot to those who might not have otherwise looked into this practice and once again it is the use of the term “free” that brings interested parties through the virtual door.

Learning how to get results with free tarot card readings does not have to be difficult. Indeed, there are several steps anyone may take to ensure that they are in the right frame of mind to have their life and destiny revealed with the help of the cards – whether they are virtual or real in nature. To this end it is crucial to begin any reading, even the Internet one, with a clear and open mind. If it is possible, a bit of meditation or prayer ahead of the reading will help to clear the mind and soul of clutter and crystallize on the issue at hand.

Seek out your favorite website for free tarot card readings and focus you mind on the situation you need help with. In some cases this may be a simple question but do not shy away from coming to the computer with a complex situation that may not be placed in the form of a simple question! Next, choose a tarot deck that holds an appeal to you. Some websites offer only a single card reading or at the most a Celtic spread. Others will offer a three card reading and even a lovers’ spread.

For the novice, the best free tarot card readings to employ are the three deck readings since they will not only foster an understanding of the cards but also help to get a good overview of life such as it is and the situation as it presents itself with a little bit of a hint as to the future. When learning how to get results with such readings it is crucial to remember that they do not simply offer up a solution but actually frame a call to action. Thus, a reading must be acted upon to actually yield any appreciable results.

Different Spreads In Tarot Showing the Judgment Card

Different Spreads In Tarot Showing the Judgment Card

The different spreads in tarot card readings are used to adequately supply the truth seeker with the information desired but without overwhelming her. To this end it is not at all outlandish to have a one card spread done simply to help clarify a situation or any influences that may be factoring in on the current status quo of a situation. Conversely, a two card spread offers a bit more insight into the past, such as it influences the present, and the future, such as it may branch off from the present. Of course, by far the most accurate low card spread is the three card reading. One card denotes the past, another shows the present, and the third the future.

As such, most individuals find that this is not only immensely accurate but because it is simple there is little cause for concern that some of the information may be tainted by faulty analysis. Things become a bit dicier when the judgment card is involved; for example, when it appears in the single card spread the judgment card points toward an actual impending result. This may be a judgment based on a lack of action or the result of an ill chosen course of action; conversely, in a single card spread the judgment card may also simply offer hope that there will be change offered at some point.

For this reason most card readers will suggest a three card spread when the judgment card appears, simply to allow for a bit more information as to whether the judgment is in the past and the future is depending on it, or whether it is in the future and as such directly caused by something going on in the present. In a two card spread the judgment card appearing the past points toward a need to reconcile, especially with mistakes that may have been caused in the past. If the judgment card is placed in the future spot, once again a three card spread is indicated.

Of all the different spread in tarot showing the judgment card, it is the three cards reading that offers the most information. In the past, the judgment card clearly showcases that the present and even future actions and attitudes are based on a prior judgment. In the present, it may call for an action of decision. Mind you, it is an act that the querent must perform in the present! In the future, the judgment card may point to the act of being judged or to the act of a decision coming to fruition by means of deliverance.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Is the Anime Tarot Going Too Far?

Is the Anime Tarot Going Too Far?

Sailor Moon and Saint Seiya are some of the most sought after anime characters around. With all this popularity it is not surprising to see their anime faces smiling from lunch pails, but are anime tarot cards going too far? By way of providing some background, Sailor Moon is known as the premier magical girl that is imbued and strengthened with powers heavily drawn from various studies of mythology and even the fantasy genre. Together with her friends, she must keep at bay the evil forces of a dark kingdom that threatens the world and the status quo.

In the process, the characters undergo growth in spades and the ensuing popularity of the series has led to any commercial application of the Sailor Moon there is. Saint Seiya is the male counterpart series and feature knights of the zodiac as they draw on the power of the zodiac to protect the goddess Athena. It is not at all surprising to learn that the younger generations are lapping up these anime stories that speak of mythical strength and empowerment – something that is sorely lacking for the younger generations in today’s world.

Even the old bastions of individual empowerment – religions and mysticism – are steeped in tradition and as such do not offer as much ability to relate to the younger set as perhaps those practicing them are hoping. To the extent possible, the younger generations have attempted to make do with that which has been around for the last few centuries but with the explosion of the mass media and the Internet in particular, there has been a forward surge that appears to have permeated not only everyday life and relationship formation and division, but it also has left its indelible mark on the spirituality.

Anime tarot cards are simply the latest – and probably not the last – outcropping of a generation with a need to matter and to put its own stamp on the world of spirituality and personal empowerment or growth. In addition, the use of characters that matter and with which these younger generations are intimately familiar makes it much easier for the subconscious and the conscious to connect in these cases. This is an ability that may become sorely lacking with the antiquated tarot cards featuring a pope and a hanged man that holds little value to the newly young. Anime tarot cards will most likely not stand the test of time but for the time being, they are going to help a younger generation to become familiar with the workings of cartomancy.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

How to Make the Most Out Of a Love and Relationship Tarot Reading

How to Make the Most Out Of a Love and Relationship Tarot Reading

It would be simplistic to assume that a tarot card reading will spell out the name, address and phone number of your future spouse. On the other hand, it should not be considered to be the deciding factor when it comes to staying with your spouse or filing for divorce. Instead, learning how to make the most out of a love and relationship tarot reading requires a back to basics approach that appreciates the tarot for what it is – a means for the conscious and the subconscious to connect and for the latter to empower the former – and that does not imbue it with unintended powers which may later on lead to a plethora of unintended consequences.

When you are engaging in a love and relationship tarot reading, always plan on making it an open reading. The goal is not to have a question in mind which you have pretty much already answered for yourself. Doing so will do precious little for the subconscious to have a shot of guiding you or even being heard – with or without the cards. Instead, do not ask if your husband is “a two-timing, no good, son of a gun” and instead consider focusing on the current turmoil that appears to currently be part and parcel of your husband’s demeanor.

Avoid details in your questions as much as possible. It is tempting to go ahead and imbue the question with every ounce of detail you think you can eke out of the interaction, but in so doing you are boxing in your subconscious. Instead, rely on your mind’s ability to discern that which it needs to communicate to you and rather than boxing it in, simply provide it with a frame of reference or backdrop against which it may connect with your conscious state of being.

One of the most overlooked aspects of a healthy love and relationship tarot reading is the willingness to take on personal responsibility for the issues at hand. Granted, your husband may be acting strangely lately, but perhaps it was something in your behavior that is setting him off? Thus, the question to formulate prior to approaching the cards could be what your role and its extent are in the behavioral changes you have been noticing in your spouse lately. Refrain from value judgments by calling his behavior inappropriate or hostile toward you as this once again boxes in your subconscious and while it may seek to answer your conscious mind might be incapable of picking up the clues.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

How to Read Tarot Cards of the Minor Arcana – Cups

How to Read Tarot Cards of the Minor Arcana – Cups

Much has been said and written about the Major Arcana, but when it comes to the Minor Arcana more often than not literature refuses to become as detailed in teaching novices how to read tarot cards as heretofore it was effusively meticulous in specifying each and every imaginable facet of the other cards. Learning how to read tarot cards of the Minor Arcana does not have to be difficult and perhaps the most impactful one are the cups. Read alone or in tandem with other cards, the cups very rarely take a backset to the meaning of the Major Arcana and as such it is only the three of cups that may be considered as taking on a secondary role to one of the other cards.

The suit of cups starts off with the ace of cups which heavily connected with inner peace and also a positive energy that is influencing life. The two of cups is the personification of the lovers in the Minor Arcana and as such it symbolizes the power that two in a love relationship always exert. The three of cups may point toward friendship and harmony outside of a one on one love relationship while the four showcases solitude and introspection; the five immediately following takes this a step further and speaks of the negative aspects of such reflection.

The six of cups stands for naïveté whereas the seven warns of an educated and well considered choice that must be made which may be removed from material realms and may be entirely spiritual or emotional. When the eight of cups shows itself, it becomes obvious that a choice made either failed or will fail to offer the rewards it alleged. This may be due to a less than wise choice. Conversely, the nine of cups shows an immense sense of satisfaction at the choice or choices made. The ten stands for happiness that comes from within, not without.

Of the cards which need to be understood in conjunction with those of the Major Arcana, the three of cups may be interpreted as symbolizing a birth when it appears with the empress. In addition, when learning how to read tarot cards it is crucial to realize that even the positive and highly coveted ten of cups may have a double meaning when it presents itself upside down: in that case it points to happiness running out and heartaches, dissension and in some cases even violence may be crouching at the door.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

How Do Tarot Cards Work?

How Do Tarot Cards Work?

The novice wonders time and again how a simple deck of cards could possibly foretell the future. How is it possible for a person who is miles away to read your past, present and future with the help of a deck of cards that contains pretty pictures? How do tarot cards work? Some have embellished the power of the cards and referred to magic or a tapping into the divine for the sake of adding a bit more mystique to what is actually a rather simple process.

Perhaps the most straight forward explanation comes from those who have made it their life’s work to use the tarot deck to help themselves and others: the cards are little more of a way for the subconscious to connect with the conscious and in that one split second to reveal and empower. Illustrating this is the use of the one card spread where one tarot card is read as an open reading. The querent already has an answer for the question she is thinking of but this spread serves to look into a new segment of life that might be beginning. For example, perhaps she has accepted a promotion and is wondering about the road ahead and the impact the new responsibilities and remunerations may have overall on the status quo of life.

The problem with this kind of reading rests in the overly generic nature that it brings across. This lack of specificity makes it hard for anyone to really allow the cards to shine and for the subconscious to guide adequately the conscious state of being. This is done much rather in a question reading which requires a particular question to be posed. Caution is advised! The framing of the question is every bit as important as the asking itself; a question that is too broad prevents the wisdom of the subconscious to shine through while one that is slanted or negative prohibits the conscious to pick up clues and cues from the subconscious that might be opposed to the negative slant.

So – how do tarot cards work? Tarot cards work in the hands of skilled diviner simply by opening a flow of communication with a person’s self. There is no hocus-pocus and none of the ancillary showmanship that is so often associated with tarot readings. Instead, the atmosphere simply serves to set the table to which the individual in question may bring a particular query and then allow the subconscious to impart some already known truths.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Explore the Meaning of Each Tarot Card from the Marseille Major Arcana

Explore the Meaning of Each Tarot Card from the Marseille Major Arcana

Perhaps the most controversial card of the Marseille Major Arcana is “la papesse.” Understood to refer to the female pope which was a chief reason for discord with the Christian church, the card was a direct shot at the papacy itself. In other decks the papess is depicted as the high priestess. Exploring the meaning of each tarot card from the Marseille Major Arcana requires a look beyond the potentially explosive controversies that surrounded some of the depictions and instead a focus on their deeper denotations.

The Marseille Major Arcana is made up of the cards depicting the papess, the pope, the fool, the empress, the emperor, the magician, the lovers, the chariot, the hermit, justice, strength, the wheel of fortune, the hanged man, death, the devil, restraint, the house of God, the sun, the moon, the star, the world, and judgment.

The papess stands for intuition, patience, wisdom and the subconscious, while the pope denotes a certain naïveté coupled with either an outdated belief system of staunch conservatism; in some cases the pope also stands for established knowledge. The fool, on the other hand, is actually in need of the pope’s knowledge although he does possess his own wisdom. In some cases he is considered base. The empress stands for nurturing and mothering qualities while the emperor may either point toward the fathering aspects or ego driven leadership.

Continuing on with the meaning of each tarot card, the magician is the face for creative energy and focused determination while the lovers in the Marseille Major Arcana stand for a choice that could border on an impasse. With the chariot for impulsive energy and willpower, the hermit for reflective separation, justice for cold rationality of impartial criticism, strength for serenity and composure, and the wheel of fortune for sudden opportunities, the next cards are somewhat more feared than revered.

The hanged man stands for surrendering something of value or giving up one’s self while death does not have to mean one’s demise but most certainly points to a loss or even an event that is impossible to avoid. While the meaning of each tarot card is in keeping with its depiction, the devil stands for the attributes of hedonistic tendencies. Restraint is the direct opposite, and the house of God may be considered as downfall or a sudden revelation that may be positive but more likely turns into a disillusion. The sun promises enlightenment but the moon hints at fear and illusion. The star speaks of trust and faithful hope, and the world seconds this by offering contentment; finally judgment is meted out and it may stand for rejuvenation, a new beginning, or hope at the end of a trial.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Some Facts about Tarot Card Decks You Might Not Have Considered

Some Facts about Tarot Card Decks You Might Not Have Considered

Did you know that there are a plethora of different tarot card decks currently in circulation? Even as they contain the standard 78 cards which in turn house the 22 cards of the Major Arcana, their looks are different and in some cases the feel they offer the user is also vastly different from that which other decks might offer. Granted, no matter what the individual cards look like, they are still utilized to help with the connection of the subconscious and the conscious and as such they are affirmative tools for solving life’s problems and even taking a glimpse at the future.

It is another fascinating bit of lore that suggests that newcomers to the craft should not purchase their first set of cards as new, and thus there are a number of stores that offer tarot card decks which have been gently used already. In some cases they are even antique and as such offer not only beauty and the previous handling, but they are also connected intimately to another time and epoch. Some are so old that they need to be handled carefully with gloves while others are still new and crisp, even though they are sold as used sets.

Tarot card decks vary even by faith. The typical Rider Waite deck employs a lot of Christian symbolism and is interspersed with representation and imagery that a Christian and even a Jew will quickly recognize. Conversely, there are decks that are set up for the use by Voodooiennes and others of that religious persuasion and thus they are carefully and lovingly crafted with all the Voodoo symbolism in place. Although it dies not really matter which kind of deck is used, the fact that some decks uniquely appeal to a person because of their religious background needs to be taken in consideration when opting for the one you might use for yourself.

As tarot card decks continue to be printed and designed, the meaning of the individual card never shifts; instead, it is the rendition of the Major Arcana and in some cases also the display of the Minor Arcana that are being altered. The relationship between the two has not experienced a shift and it is highly unlikely that this will ever occur. As tarot reading classes are plentiful, the overall wisdom with respect to the cards continues to be taught while the individual expression is taken out of the equation.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Why Printable Tarot Decks Are Becoming More Popular

Why Printable Tarot Decks Are Becoming More Popular

Enter any New Age store and the odds of finding a beautifully crafted tarot deck are high. By far the most commonly used deck is the Rider-Waite rendition and it rests on the artistry of Pamela Smith and the instructions of Arthur Waite. Printed by the Rider Company, this deck is the one most anyone is familiar with today. The Tarot of Marseille is another deck of cards many in the European countries are familiar with and although the actual names of the creators are unknown, the imagery is thought to have heavily influenced both Ms. Smith and Mr. Waite. Today, printable tarot decks are appearing and they are leaving behind the old symbolism.

It is a curious development that sees the artistic creation of highly individualized printable tarot decks that may sport the faces and likeness of those other revere or believe to be specifically apropos to a certain card or suit. Take for example the likeness of Martin Luther King, Jr. who in one deck represents the king of clubs, and it becomes obvious rather quickly why printable tarot decks are becoming more popular: highly individualized, these cards make it possible for the individual tarot reader to have an even more personal connection to the cards.

This of course is a most valuable idea wince reading the cards and offering advice to oneself and others from the cards requires not only a trained skill, but an innate connection to the truths the cards may be holding. Many websites now offer print downloadable and printable tarot decks which feature the designs the artists felt were near and dear to their hearts. Other sites contain meticulous instructions for the creation of one’s own personalized deck and even a matrix that permits for the quick generation of images against the backdrop of traditional tarot symbolism.

Of course, the downside of printable tarot decks is the still somewhat crude elements that are reliant only on the skill with the cut and paste functions of whatever art program one’s personal computer may hold. Thus, the imagery is not superior to the established deck which was hand crafted and lovingly detailed. To the novice this might not make a lot of difference and especially younger individuals who are just getting started do not have a problem with putting their favorite pop stars and other images onto the cards; while this may be fun, it robs the tarot of some of its function and possibly also functionality.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteaAdvice.com

The Danger of Free Tarot Card Readings

The Danger of Free Tarot Card Readings

With so many free tarot card readings available online, those in search for clues to their past, present and also future have it as easy as never before to receive the answers they are looking for. In the past the process required an appointment with a fortune teller or skilled tarot reader but today, even in the wee hours of the morning the computer is ready to give answers to even the most difficult of life’s questions. Of course, there is a price associated with even the free readings, and to truly appreciate the danger of free tarot card readings, it is imperative to remember the limitations of the digital medium.

First and foremost, those in search for answers must learn to differentiate between the bona fide online readings and the ones which are little more than computer generated chance displays of various cards associated with the major and minor arcana. The latter is a much sought after piece of code that is easily integrated into the overall website design of any New Age storefront or other such site and even though it is not referred to as a snippet of code, most webmasters know it as such. Those not well versed with website design may fail to recognize the random nature of such card displays and mistake this form of a reading as one of the true, free tarot card readings.

Secondly, remembering that the proper preparation on the part of the seeker and also the reader is an essential part of the tarot reading process, it only stands to reason that the seeker may not be as thoroughly mentally prepared as perhaps is advisable. This leads to a failure of formulating a coherent question that drowns out the din of associated emotions, fears, and other aspects of being that may be opposed to receiving a clear response; the same of true for the reader as well.

Finally, dangers of any free tarot card readings – whether they are made in person, online or over the telephone – may be traced back to the improper state of mind the person in need of guidance may have. “Free” is a powerful incitement for even those who would not otherwise be interested or inclined to seek out spiritualistic guidance. As such, they may lack the understanding of the limitations any kind of occult advice carries and also the necessity of still going out and making choices and acting upon the wisdom received. Thus, free tarot card readings may place those singularly unsuited for such avenues of truth finding in the path of facts they may not be able to handle.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Tarot Card Instructions for the Suit of Coins

Tarot Card Instructions for the Suit of Coins

Part and parcel of the Minor Arcana, the suit of coins is sometimes referred to as either the suit of discs or even the suit of pentacles. Since the cards contain a pentagram, they are frequently maligned as being devilish or otherwise evil in meaning, yet this is not necessarily the case. Tarot card instructions for the suit of coins vary, although there are a number of oddities surrounding the ace of coins; meanings vary widely and if ever there was a card that caused fortune tellers to quip about a tall, dark stranger, it is the ace of coins. This is due to its direct relationship with the coming of something from a higher power.

When the two of coins is employed in conjunction with the lovers’ card, there is an impending marriage to report. The three of coins is a double edged sword with respect to its meaning: right side up, the card speaks of the achievement of fame and fortune by one’s handiwork or labor while upside down, the card speaks of shoddy workmanship and a failure to earn income or respect because such little care was taken with the labor involved in a task at hand. When paired with the judgment or death cards, an upside down three of coins may point to the loss of a job or a demotion.

One card that is inherently negative is the four of coins which, when right side up, denotes the querent as being materialistically inclined in the negative sense while card upside down speaks of an unwise and careless squanderer of wealth and goods. Going from bad to worse, the five of coins showcases the individual caught in a seemingly hopeless situation that will continue on for a while yet. The card calls for perseverance and discernment but also for a reevaluating of the relationships currently in the life of the person receiving the reading.

The tarot card instructions the six of coins denote charity that may be either received or meted out in a judicious matter. When the seven of coins is paired with the devil card, a promotion is in the wings as the seven by itself speaks of an action that is coming and which will physically shift the querent from one place in life to another. On the other hand, an eight of coins and the devil card may showcase that the work is not yet being appreciated the way it needs to be and any movement the seeker hopes for might have to come from a change of jobs. When combined with a nine of coins, this may point to a marital or love relationship where the personal attributes or character of the querent are not as appreciated as they could be. Finally, the ten of coins showcases the mix of financial and familial matters, though the outcome is ambiguous.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Tarot Card Explanation for the Wheel of Fortune

Tarot Card Explanation for the Wheel of Fortune

The wealth of symbolism and imagery of the tarot has lead to copious interpretations. Some such interpretations are easy and they make sense, while others fly in the face of common sense and even the imagery that is contained on the face of the cards. The two which come to mind immediately are the devil and the death cards, both of which are eyed with suspicion, fear and loathing by novices but understood to point to a wealth of underlying currents in the past, present and future of an individual by the occultist. With so much attention paid to these two cards, the tarot card explanation for the wheel of fortune card is sadly and misguidedly left by the wayside.

Even as it offers a more or less positive imagery, the tenth card of the Major Arcana is a lot more complex in meaning and symbolism than is often asserted. In addition, it withholds its meaning in a single card spread and instead requires the presence of modifying cards to actually bring forth its meaning. Many skilled tarot readers suggest that a single card spread that presents the seeker with a wheel of fortune card is a surefire hint that a further reading is highly advisable and at least a three card spread be employed.

As the name suggests, there is a randomness that is implied by the presence of the wheel of fortune. It may be a random event that will suddenly change life for the seeker or it may be the speed with which circumstances change for the individual. This holds true especially when the wheel of fortune is seen against the backdrop of the lovers or in conjunction with the two of cups. Another possible tarot card explanation for the wheel of fortune may be the active role that destiny is to have upon the life of a person.

This may be destiny in the form of a surprising development or of a possibility that suddenly becomes possible. The downside to the any tarot card explanation involving the wheel of fortune is the fact that there is little clue whether or not the development is positive or negative. Granted, the surrounding cards may hint at the scope and direction of the new developments, but by and large there is no guarantee. Of course, when considering that what is a seemingly bad development of a situation is consider a blessing in disguise in the future, there is a lot of wisdom in the cards’ being silent on this matter.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Considering the Effectiveness of Tarot Spreads

Considering the Effectiveness of Tarot Spreads

It is hard to believe that many a connoisseur of occult wisdom is sadly unfamiliar with the various tarot spreads which are currently employed in the art and practice of divination. Even as many understand that meanings of the cards and embrace their efficacy in the day to day applicability of their messages, fewer aficionados actually realize that getting to a distinct answer it is crucial to ask the right question in conjunction with choosing the right spread.

Take for example the single card reading which is also known as the one card spread. Although it only provides hints at the future, it helps the questioner to gain a grip on the here and now. This is a most useful spread when seeking to take the measure of a current situation but perhaps because of so many ancillary circumstances it is hard to make neither heads nor tails of the situation. A single card tarot reading is a premier solution for the confused mind that is in need of clarification.

A two card reading is the classic spread that is utilized when there are two choices to be made. Mind you, this is not the best choice when the question revolves around a life or death situation and in such cases a three card reading is highly recommended. The two card reading is primarily one of the tarot spreads employed that helps to make a decision and pick this career over that, or other such decisions of a more mundane but nonetheless important nature. The classic three card spread with its representation of the past, present and future is perhaps the most commonly of the tarot spreads currently in use.

Expanding on the three card spread is the horseshoe spread that utilizes seven cards to answer very specific questions. It denotes obstacles but also clarifies fears and suggests possible outcomes. It is one of the most succinct tarot spreads currently in use and quite popular with those who have a very specific question in mind. The lovers’ spread, or ten card spread, combines the answers offered by the tarot symbolism with the elemental aspects of the cards. The tenor of the entire reading is determined by the top card. While these are tarot spreads which are frequently seen depicted on television, they are not commonly used simply because they require a highly skilled reader and a lot of faith in the questioner’s ability to crystallize the question at hand.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

The Minor Arcana of the Tarot

The Minor Arcana of the Tarot

Most anyone is familiar with the Major Arcana of the tarot, but next to nobody is truly familiar with the cards and their meanings of the Minor Arcana. As such, the Minor Arcana is a collection of suits that is frequently used as playing cards, especially in European countries. There are the clubs, the coins, the swords, and the cups. Interpreting these cards within a Tarot reading is not always considered although sometimes they are most valuable when seeking to underscore a perhaps ambiguous display of the Major Arcana.

The clubs generally symbolize the peasant but in today’s work this may also refer to the manual laborer or industrial worker. Anyone who uses their hands to produce work results would be symbolized by the clubs, but interestingly the same is also said of those who work with their minds in the creative processes. The coins then and now are relegated to the merchant and shopkeeper. This may be the CEO of a successful retail business or the store manager of a small mom and pop shop. Cups point toward the religious leader but in some cases this may also refer to a spiritualist medium or counselor while the swords point toward the soldier, regardless of rank or outfit.

Of all the cards that make up the tarot’s Minor Arcana, the queens are perhaps the most fascinating. The Queen of Clubs is known for depicting a down to earth intuition that must be tempered with patients, while the Queen of Coins denotes either a woman with wealth or a foolish woman who seeks to keep up a façade of wealth although her wealth has long since crumbled away. Great care is to be taken when the Queen of Cups presents herself because right side up she speaks of loyalty and love but upside down she may warn against a person close by who is pretending at loyalty and instead is practicing deceit. This is a much dreaded card in the Minor Arcana of the tarot.

The Queen of Swords, on the other hand, is an excellent example of wisdom that is coupled with life experience or perhaps gained by the painful lessons of the past. As it pertains to the tarot reading that perhaps is a bit uncertain at the onset, this card is most welcomed and exemplifies in many ways why a reliance on the Minor Arcana cannot be overemphasized!

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

How to Read Tarot with Playing Cards in the Celtic cross Formation

How to Read Tarot with Playing Cards in the Celtic cross Formation

Learning how to read tarot with playing cards in the Celtic cross formation is not difficult. As a matter of fact, regular playing cards were the original cards used by cartomancers well in advance of the use of the tarot decks currently available. Generally speaking, the clubs represent the wands, the diamonds stand for the coins, the hearts symbolize the cups and the spades are the swords. It may take a little getting used to, but once you succeed in making the connection between the tarot’s symbolism and the graphics on a pack of regular playing cards, you are halfway there.

There is a plethora of methodologies that various cartomancers swear by. Some remove the cards with values lower than five, while others keep them in the deck. Most can agree on keeping the joker in the deck as a decided wildcard and instead of focusing solely on the face or number of the suit that is being turned over, the reader will see the suit against the backdrop of its occult element. To this end, wands are the power that comes from the element of fire while diamonds are the tangible which is arrived at via the Earth itself. Swords are the intellect and as a suit they denote the element of air and lastly cups are the water element and thus stand for the emotions.

The first card of the Celtic cross symbolizes that which is the past. It may be a recent past or it may be a more comprehensive understanding of the term. Next come three cards that symbolize that which rules the individual, that which makes them act, and that which they would rarely if ever consider even being part of their character. It is interesting to note that the last choice is often quite surprising since it is generally not that which the querent would have guessed. Another single card denotes the future. Once again, the scope of the term is highly subjective and it may be a short term future or a long term approach.

As you learn to read tarot with playing cards, special care must be taken with the defining modifiers of the future. The result of the situation and the hopes and fears cards do not always appear in harmony and more often than not you might find a direct call to action difficult to discern. This is where the external and internal influence cards come in handy which are laid down next. In conjunction they will make clear that which must be done and also that which is preventing action from taking place.

Tarot Card Spreads Showing the High Priestess or Empress

Tarot Card Spreads Showing the High Priestess or Empress

It is curious that many a novice to tarot readings believes the high priestess and empress cards to be somewhat interchangeable. Nothing could be further from the truth! As a matter of fact, tarot card spreads showing the high priestess or empress point toward entirely different pasts or futures and depending on the other modifying cards surrounding them, the meaning is entirely different as is the attitude that they seek to convey. Remember also that men, just as women, may be characterized by either high priestess or empress!

The high priestess of the tarot is of course considered the premier card for the individual seeking to discern that which is hidden from the conscious and which is most likely buried deep in the subconscious. As such she may point toward a need to trust intuition, such as when she is modified by the presence of judgment, or the warning to not let the inner voice become too loud, lest a powerful individual – usually signified by the devil card – take uninvited notice. Tolerance and compassion are also associated with the high priestess and overall she is a positive card showing in any of the various tarot card spreads.

On the other hand, the empress card has much more earthy connotations. She is the mother and as such combines nurture with sexuality, power with submission, and profusion with sacrifice. The empress takes on a different role depending on the time in life and as such it might be the role of sexuality that is stronger in some times than the role of nurturing although this may shift as needed by life’s circumstances. It is interesting to note that men who see the empress fail to recognize that it may speak to the nurturing part in their own characters and instead the first question almost inevitably deals with a potential pregnancy in their ladylove’s life.

Both empress and high priestess have great significance on the cards by which they are modified and any time that a single or even two cards are used in tarot card spreads, it is highly advisable to opt for a second reading, preferably a Celtic cross spread. Depending on the location of either empress of high priestess, the skilled reader has a good chance at arriving at a highly specialized reading that applies to the querent with respect to hopes and fears but also the eventual outcome for any situation.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Popularity for Tarot y Videncia Soars

Popularity for Tarot y Videncia Soars

The popularity for tarot y videncia is soaring at this point in time and those not familiar with the website will soon find out that it refers to a site where tarot readings and fortune telling are done in Spanish instead of English. In addition, this is the kind of venue the most commonly deck of tarot cards used is the Tarot of Marseille and not the Rider-Waite deck. Though to the average Anglo this is of little import, to those who hail from the European and Latin American nations that favor the deck of Marseilles, this is a huge deal.

Another reason for booming business tarot y videncia is doing at this point is the fact that the Spanish language readings appeal to those who formulate their thoughts in that language and who also dream in this language. You may be surprised to learn that someone who dreams in a foreign language will have a hard time translating the imagery and language tie ins and actually by doing so she or he will set up a scenario that might be removed from that which the dream sought to convey in the first place.

Native speakers are always the ones best consulted by those in need of a reading and the tarot y videncia site offers 24 hour readings by those who are well versed in the Spanish language and the use of the Marseille imagery. These readings may be cast live with the help of a webcam, via email, online, or even by telephone. Of course, an added benefit of this kind of website is the possibility of using other forms of divination that are unique in that they might be background or region specific. As such, the needs of a Mexican querent from Guadalupe are markedly different than those of someone who hails from the tiny Spanish Bayubas de Abajo.

There is the magic recipe that is very popular in the Spanish countryside and the clairvoyant advice offered by those who would read the horoscope of the querent in addition to a tarot reading. Moreover, the fact that some interpretations of the zodiac are location specific and even language driven simply underscores the need for authentic Spanish readings for those with this native language. Tarot y videncia provides this service online and visitors to such websites are time and again surprised to learn about the depth and breadth of the differences that may be found in interpretations and readings.

Copyright 2008, Infiniteadvice.com

Why Are There Different Types Of Tarot Cards?

Why Are There Different Types Of Tarot Cards?

If you have ever wondered why there are different types of tarot cards, you are not alone. There is one printable deck of cards that features the likeness of Martin Luther King, Jr. while it also shows the face of the tragic princess Diana Spencer. Other types of tarot cards feature popular cartoon characters, such as anime characters Sailor Moon and her friends, whereas others may feature more sinister looking characters. Truth be told, there are about as many different types of tarot decks as there are people using them.

Remembering that the agreed upon use for tarot cards is the provision of a bridge between the conscious and the subconscious, the ability to relate to the cards is crucial for this mission to succeed. Failure to properly relate to the cards is greeted with a bit of apprehension and in some cases something that looks and sounds more like a guessing game rather than a bona fide tarot card reading. Since intuition and an open mind are the two most highly valued accoutrements of a successful reader, the individual needs to do whatever is possible to attain such a state of mind and frame of reference.

Utilizing a deck that invigorates the senses – whether it uses anime characters or the traditional symbolism of the Rider Waite deck – and capitalizes on the symbolism that the individual reader’s subconscious is most likely to be in tune with goes a long way to arriving at an accurate reading overall. In some cases individuals have been known to make up their own cards and in so doing have fashioned them after their own frame of reference. This step of course imitates the one taken by the creators of the current deck of tarot cards and as such should be applauded for its use of personally significant imagery.

Consider trying out some of the various types of tarot cards. You may be surprised to learn that one deck speaks to you a lot more clearly and succinctly than another and instead of attempting to make do with a deck that does not meet your needs, simply go ahead and avail yourself of the various offerings currently on the market, or simply make your very own deck. Instructions may be found online and the creation of a computer template is simple. With a bit of cardstock and a computer drawing program, you may add to the number of tarot decks currently in circulation.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Tarot Symbols of the Hierophant

Tarot Symbols of the Hierophant

The tarot symbols surrounding the card of the hierophant are plentiful and fascinating. The fifth card of the Major Arcana, it is sometimes referred to as the pope card, even though some signs associated with the office of the pope are actually missing. To this end the name hierophant is by far more applicable. Within the meaning of the card, this card may signal conservative values such as they are expressed in education, attitude, and even faith while at other times it may be associated with a certain naïveté that robs the querent of the objectivity needed to make a reasoned decision.

Going further, the hierophant is even at times associated with deception – both of and by the querent – and it is not surprising to see this card in close proximity to the devil or even death cards. Even as the meanings of the card are much easier to discern than those of others within the tarot decks, there tarot symbolism that permeates the presentation of the hierophant is rich and enthralling. Surpassed in depth only by the symbolism of the queen of coins, the hierophant has been crafted with meticulous attention to detail.

Take for example the hand gesture that is commonly considered the papal benediction such as it is delivered during the urbi et orbi speech held on Easter, and note that it carries on the bridging of the temporal and the divine as it was showcased in the 13th card, the hanged man. While the bridge is by far more visible in the latter card, it is the figure of the hierophant that is considered the originator of the connection in the first place.

Another bit of tarot symbolism that is sometimes lost on the casual observer is the seat of the hierophant between pillars. Tarotologists hold that the pillars represent heaven and hell or obedience and disobedience. Others have considered the seat to be a representation of the hierophant’s ability to nudge a person either toward adherence to the law or a life of hedonism. Of course, the keys at his feet may very well be the keys to the kingdom of heaven and as such it is indeed a choice the hierophant is seeking the person to make.

Conceived in a time when the pope and the church were a lot worldlier than today, it is not odd to see the tarot symbols of the hierophant offering the choice with the keys of heaven still being attainable. Were the cards drawn up today, there is discussion as to whether there would be one or two keys since a wrong choice will more or less disqualify the person from the rewards offered in the hereafter.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Eclectic Tarot Layouts

Eclectic Tarot Layouts

Almost everyone is familiar with the one card, two cards, three cards and even Celtic cross spreads, but few know about the more eclectic tarot layouts and their applicability. Truth be told, many a tarot reader quickly and early on finds the layout that speaks to her or him and thus there is little need to deviate from the tried and true methods of divination. The spread talks to the reader and the reader feels comfortable that thoughts and matters are brought to the cards in such a manner that a communication is established. Even in cases where the reader may feel that a bit more information in a certain area would be much appreciated, the utilization of a different layout is rare.

Topping the charts for eclectic tarot layouts is the zodiac spread. Twelve cards are placed in a circle with a thirteenth card going into the center. The center card is thought to hold the future outcome that is the answer to the question but it requires modification by the surrounding cards. Those favoring a one card spread have little difficulty changing over to a zodiac layout. In addition to the foregoing, those with a penchant for astrology appreciate the way the cards are used against the backdrop of the houses of the zodiac.

One of the lesser known tarot layouts is the dream spread. It consists of four cards but instead of starting top to bottom, the first card is placed on the bottom left, the second on the top left, the third on the top right and the fourth on the bottom right. There is a dual meaning ascribed to this form of spread in that the left column is, much like a two card spread, the present as influenced by the past and the right column is the future such as it is being influenced by the present. In addition, the top row features the metaphysical or dream state while the bottom row is the physical world.

One would think that such eclectic tarot layouts are indeed few and far between and even though it may take some time for them to catch on, there are more and more new spreads which seem to come about more frequently now. Gone are the days when there was the notion that one spread could fit all and when the Celtic cross was consider novel. Instead, since there are so many diviners who are now firmly rooted in both astrology and numerology or any other disciplines, it only makes sense for their knowledge and understanding to also permeate the world of tarot layouts.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Why is there a Devil in the Tarot Cards?

Why is there a Devil in the Tarot Cards?

Countless novices have wondered why there are devil tarot cards. As though the imagery of the death card and the hanged man were not sinister enough, the presence of the horned one as the 15th position in the major arcana makes this a rather ominous and menacing deck indeed. This has also led to tarot cards being banned from a multitude of venues, especially those that may have even the loosest religious ties. Time and again the aspiring occultist has to warn those who would otherwise point toward the most simplistic meaning of a card of the danger of taking cards at their face value.

Like any other one of the tarot cards, the devil card does not stand for the devil personified but instead symbolizes that within human nature that is most closely associated with an air of hedonism. Self-indulgence, materialistic self-gratification, ignorant self-satisfaction, lustful pleasure-seeking, grave mistakes, and the basest instincts are all expressed with the symbol of the devil. Failure to aspire to one’s best and instead letting loose one’s worst is equally symbolized.

The initial descriptions of the meaning of the devil card showcases that it is a card that points toward the self as opposed outwardly to others, as many other tarot cards do; it is a direct hint toward someone being shackled and bound by something that is self imposed. This may be alcoholism, drug use and addictions of any kind, improper prioritization, and even voluntary but unwise forms of bondage, such as the financial act of cosigning a loan for another individual. In a few select cases the devil may even represent a powerful person who has a negative influence on the individual for whom the tarot cards are being read.

For example, when the tarot cards appearing in a two card spread are an eight of clubs and a devil, the odds are good that the reading speaks of a powerful individual with a strong personality coming into the life of the questioner. The number of clubs indicates that this person is coming onto the horizon rather quickly and as such it is wise to be on one’s guard! There is the temptation that the person may bring out negative traits in the person for whom the tarot cards are being read and that at this time there is a good change that the individual is weaker than ever before when it comes to withstanding these temptations.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Understanding the Meaning of Tarot Cards – Death

Understanding the Meaning of Tarot Cards – Death

Newbies to the tarot deck are often intimidated by some of the more sinister appearing characters. When it comes to understanding the meaning of tarot cards – death in particular – there is quite frequently a hushed silence and the idea that this is an inherently bad or even evil sign. In some cases it has even been believed to be interchangeable with the devil card itself! Television shows have time and again employed this imagery as being a sinister precursor of the impending demise of the questioner and the dramatic death card shot when coupled with its falling from the hands of a corpse makes for great television!

Of course, to the skilled occultist it is clear that death does not have to mean the actual physical death of a person. Sure, it is the 13th card in the major arcana, and this also does precious little to endear it to the minds and hearts of the novice, and there are indeed some unhappy connotations associated with this card. Death may refer to farewells that are permanent and being trapped in an inevitable situation that defies modification. It may even signal sadness and a loss of an item, a situation or in some cases also a person!

On the other hand, understanding the meaning of tarot cards and the death card in particular requires the realization that the cards must always be read against the backdrop of the spread in which they occur. In a one card spread this will obviously not work, but even there it is noteworthy that the imagery of death does not signify the personal bodily death of a person but instead may simply stand for the symbolic death of a situation or phase in life. Naturally, the single card reading is a rare spread indeed, and thus the meaning of the death card is almost always modified by its accompaniment.

In such instances death may stand for a conclusion of a matter or a thought pattern. This goes hand in hand with the school of thought that believes the death card to symbolize a metamorphosis resulting in a personal change that might be eminently positive! Those caught up in a cooling relationship have been advised that seeing the death card in conjunction with the ace of cups may be hinting at an old relationship ending but a new love waiting in the wings! Understanding the meaning of tarot is never possible on its very own and always must be done with the other cards in mind!

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Free Tarot

Free Tarot

Free tarot is the free association of symbols on a deck of tarot cards to the user’s wild imagination and personal interpretation. Anyone can play the association game if you have a deck of tarot cards.

A tarot deck is a set of 78 cards with pictures that depict representations of the forces of nature and the vices and virtues of human kind. Though there are defined meanings for the pictures and the many details contained in each scene, the fact that they are designed to represent the human experience makes them a pliable tool for free interpretation.

The primary use of tarot cards today is for divination and fortune telling, but in free tarot, they serve as a stimulus for thinking about a particular circumstance, usually a problem or quandary, in a new light. By using the tarot cards, a person is directed to consider an avenue that might not otherwise have been considered. For example, you may be stumped by some dilemma in your life. You talk about it with your friends, you research and read about it, you consult the aid of professionals, but still, you are no closer to finding a solution. Then you choose some random card from a tarot deck and something catches your eye.

Though the pictures in the cards represent universal life experiences, they are drawn in artistic styles no longer a part of our every day environments. Therefore, you are more likely to see things you wouldn’t normally see. This alone triggers your mind to turn its focus elsewhere, and elsewhere is usually where we find our answers!

Free tarot allows the individual to free up the mind, open it up, so to speak, so that new possibilities can enter its consciousness. People who participate in free tarot and also know the assigned meanings of the pictures are not bound by the established definitions; somehow they are able to enter a realm of spontaneity in their minds and make truly “free” associations with the images.

Free tarot can be done as a solitary activity or in the company of others. Of course, “two heads are better than one,” so the advantage to doing free tarot with one or more close friends is that you will get more input, more interpretation, more insight into your quandary. However, you may opt to try free tarot on your own so as to avoid the inevitable conflicting and therefore confusing interpretations of others.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Free Automated Tarot Readings

Free Automated Tarot Readings

Free automated tarot readings are those that you can find on the internet. There are many appealing sites, but be forewarned, many of them will give your computer viruses! The term “automated” means that the reading is mechanically produced by a computer. Computers are amazing tools and capable of doing many things better and faster than humans, so it is only natural that computer programs would be designed to make tarot readings easier and more convenient as well. Automated readings, however, eliminate the human factor all together and this is not always a good thing, especially when it concerns divination. Human intuition is a key factor in effective and accurate readings. If we are to eliminate the intuitive powers of human influence, it should at least be replaced with a higher power rather than a more technical device.

At any rate, automated tarot readings are popular among a diverse spectrum of people and they are quite easy to find. Automated readings offer a person the opportunity to try out tarot without the scrutiny of nay-sayers. It is private and discrete, thereby allowing the curious novice anonymity when first venturing out into unknown waters. Automated tarot readings also allow you to try it out over and over and as many times as you want. Finally, another advantage to the automated readings is that they are “free”. If you are at all curious, however, you will soon be tempted to pay for more complete readings as most of the “free” ones are just a tempting sampling.

While it can be frustrating to find an acceptable site for your free automated tarot reading, you could try Tarot.com. This is a good site where you can get a sample of the Celtic Cross spread in a 3-card version, i.e., condensed, readings for free. You will not get far into the reading before you are asked for personal information, but they do not require more than a first name, email address and a password into their site so you can access your reading. (Of course, this will ultimately put you on an automated list for receiving lots of emails…)

The program invites you to first pose a question and it provides advice or suggestions as to how to form questions that work best for tarot. For example, “what is the best way to relate to so-and-so at this time?” as opposed to asking “is so-and-so the right person for me?” Then the next click gives you a deck of cards. Three clicks later and the icon at the bottom of the page starts spinning and your reading is being processed.

Just remember, free automated tarot readings are fast, easy and convenient, but they are by no means a replacement for the real deal – that is, a face to face encounter with a skilled tarot reader. So if you do sign up for an automated reading, don’t forget your local reader and be sure to do your part to keep her in business.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Tarot Card Descriptions

Tarot Card Descriptions

The most common description of tarot cards is that they are a deck of cards used to help answer some of life’s more difficult questions. This includes the employment of the multi-layered symbolism in the pictures for divination and fortune telling. People often interpret these aspects of tarot cards as being a tool for insight and guideance. Other definitions include the use of tarot cards for astrological interpretations, or simply, as a game of cards.

Presumably, tarot cards originally existed as a card game for entertainment amongst the upper court classes of ancient cultures. Therefore, the description of tarot cards as a game of trumps is perhaps the oldest known. In the tarot game of trumps (derived from the word “triumph”) there were 21 special cards which could be played, regardless of what suit was let, and they outranked all other “ordinary” cards. The association with “special” and the ability to outrank other cards no doubt fueled the idea that they held great power.

The description of tarot cards transformed from card game to divination when devotees of the occult arts in Europe claimed mystical and magical elements to the designs. The four suits, Wands, Swords, X and X were associated with elements of the natural world by these early Europeans and they incorporated the use of the images on the cards into their already existing occult beliefs. The dealing of a hand of cards then, became a practice of the Druids, the pagan priests, giving them a position of mastery as they guided and directed the lives of their people. From that time until present day, the most common description of tarot cards is that they are an artifact of the occult used to direct life choices.

Following this description, let us examine how tarot cards work. Traditionally, the cards are dealt and read by a master, a man or woman who has studied the pictures in depth and who knows not only the meanings of each card, but also how each meaning is influenced and affected by other cards placed in close proximity.

The master shuffles the cards and then places the deck in front of the recipient. The recipient then cuts the deck. After the deck has been cut, the master begins to turn the cards face up in a pre-determined pattern. There are many different patterns, or spreads, as they are called, and the reader usually favors one or two spreads over all the others. In this way, a reader is usually a master of a particular style of deck and the most commonly associated spreads that go with that deck’s traditions.

As the reader turns up each card, s/he identifies what it is and tells the recipient its meaning. With each additional card, the master then explains how it relates to the other cards in the spread. When all the cards in the spread have been revealed and discussed, the reading is concluded.

Copyright 2008, Infiniteadvice.com

Tarot Card Definitions

Tarot Card Definitions

While there are many and varied definitions for tarot cards, there are some standard guides to follow for generally unified definitions. In the late 19th century, the Order of the Golden Dawn updated ancient tarot decks in an attempt to establish conformity that fairly represented the vast diversity of the tarot tradition. It is from this modern work of cards that the following definitions are drawn.

The Fool: Associated with fertility and the primal energy of spring with connotations of birth, rebirth and transformation, the Fool represents making a new start to life.
The Magician: Full of trickeries, the Magician is a wheeler and dealer; he says one thing but means another. He is known to be a thief, but just what he is stealing remains a mystery.
High Priestess: Change and movement dominate this card. It also represents female intuition.
The Empress: Representative of every kind of love, the Empress symbolizes fertility, growth, and caring.
The Emperor: This is the alpha male with all its insinuations of dominance, immaturity, impulsive behavior and a lack of respect for authority.
The Heirophant: Dogmatic and traditional, this card represents a benevolent teacher.
The Lovers: Beyond the obvious implications of love and romance, this card is really about choice – is this really what is wanted? The Lovers highlights doubt or hesitation regarding a situation.
The Chariot: Travel and change define this card. It is all about control that will result in getting what is wanted. It also defines a defense of what is wanted.
Strength: This card typically means passion - passion for life, passion for love, work, and play.
The Star: This card is card generally indicates that dreams and aspirations will come true. There is a sense of well being and confidence in the definition of the Star. It points to success in life.
The Sun: Wealth, success, and happiness define this card.
The Moon: Deception, chaos and confusion dominate the meaning of this card. These things can have benefits as well as cast doubts as this card indicates that secrets will be kept secret.
Judgment: The definition of the Judgment card is that of conclusion. Resolution of a situation is expected when this card is revealed.
The World: This card signifies that upon resolution of a situation, moving to a new place, either literally moving to a new location, or figuratively moving to a new stage in life, is next.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Tarot Deck

Tarot Deck

The tarot deck can be a source of fascination for the art enthusiast interested in history and culture. The artwork on tarot card decks is a reflection of the modern culture of the time and place where each version, or style, originated. There are several hundred different decks in existence, some dating back as far as 15th century Italy and France. Tarot card decks display images, symbols, and values from cultures such as India, China, France, Italy, Scotland, and Ireland, and they represent time periods that span six centuries. The decks also display religious themes such as Celtic, Buddhist, and Christian. Today’s decks often focus on theme as well.

A tarot card deck is a special deck of cards that comprise of 21 trump cards, the Fool, an extra face card per suit, plus the usual suit cards found in normal playing cards. Some decks are a set of 78 face cards, cards that represent some aspect of human life such as the Wheel of Fortune, the Moon, Death, etc. the images on a deck of tarot cards are highly detailed. Some decks exist primarily as miniature collections of artwork. Others are specially designed to portray unique qualities of a particular region. For this reason, there are many people who collect decks of tarot cards.

In the English speaking world, the most common deck of tarot cards is the Rider-Waite deck. It is often called the first “modern” deck because they were the first to use detailed pictures on the minor arana cards. Until then, only the major arcana had such detailed symbolism.

The Robin Hood deck is another favorite. A spin-off from the Rider-Waite deck, it is somewhat simpler and therefore easier for newcomers to tarot to understand and interpret. The Robin Hood deck is rich in pagan symbolism. With the recent surge in interest in Paganism, this deck is enjoying great popularity.

Another popular deck is the Crowley Thoth deck. The striking artwork in this deck was created by a famous occultist, Aleister Crowley. This deck is considered to be a classic, but not particularly for the novice. Previous knowledge of tarot is required to use this deck.

Yet another deck that is a must for any collector is the Golden Tarot deck. The artwork in this deck is an amazing blending of medieval and Renaissance styles into the Tarot scenes. It is a collage of images, quite fascinating in its complicated designs in addition to its in-depth symbolism.

This is just a brief summary of some of the tarot decks readily available on the market. A sampling of these decks is likely to get you hooked on the charm of the eclectic history and artwork in tarot and you just might find yourself seeking out older and rarer decks as a full-time hobby.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Future Telling Spreads

Future Telling Spreads

A future telling spread is aimed specifically at the question “what next?” Future telling spreads differ from other spreads in that they do not so much invite thought or reflection on past events or even the current state of affairs, but rather in what will be at some point in the future. Future telling spreads diminish the role of free will and free choice and emphasize instead the beliefs of destiny. Future telling spreads therefore appeal to people who tend to feel they have little or no control over the events in their lives.

Following is a description of how future telling spreads work. First, look at the overall weight of the spread. If you have equal numbers of positive and negative cards, then each card’s meaning should be taken at face value. If you have more positive cards than negative ones, then you can assume that the severity of the negative cards will be lessened. The same is true of the positive cards; if you have more negative cards than positive, then the impact of the positive cards will be less.

Cards may also negate one another. For example, a card that claims you will enjoy good health is cancelled by a card that warns of health problems. This simply implies that health should be of no concern to you in the near future.

It is important to remember that the meanings of the cards are symbolic. What this means is that you will have to interpret the meaning of the card in terms of its position in the spread. For example, if you are using the Zodiac spread and get a card in the House of Taurus (which is concerning finance) that warns of death or illness, you will need to assume that this is a warning about your finances, not your physical health.

It is believed that most negative cards are warnings and should be treated as such with appropriate changes in current behavior. For example, if you get a card that predicts poor health and you are a smoker, you should seriously quit smoking.

Generally speaking, any of the spreads can be used for future telling purposes. What makes them “future” oriented is a) the question “what next?” and b) the point of view from which the interpretation is made. For this reason, it is important to discuss your purposes with the reader before a reading begins. Often, we want to know something about our futures because something is looming over us and we do not know what to do about it. A future telling spread will give insight, warnings, and suggestions and ideally, you should follow the implications in the cards if you entered into the reading with that in mind.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Full Tarot Decks

Full Tarot Decks

A full tarot deck is a set of cards with images that represent the forces of nature and the vices and virtues of humanity. A full tarot deck will include both major and minor arcana. The major arcana is comprised of 21 face cards; the minor arcana includes 4 suits with number cards (1-10) plus a King, Queen, Knight, and a Page.

In a full tarot deck the minor arcana cards have astrological attributions that are usually used as general indicators of timing. These are very useful in the fortune telling spreads of tarot when the purpose of the reading is to help the recipient decide when to make certain changes that are pending. The major arcana, often referred to as the court cards, signify different people in the recipient’s circle of influence. The court cards provide hints and insight regarding a person’s physical, emotional, and mental characteristics. Again, it takes both aspects to form a full deck.

A full tarot deck includes enough symbols in its collection to cover the gambit of human emotion and experience – symbols that span the ages and have no cultural boundaries. No matter what circumstances you are facing in your life, the meanings of the cards will resonate with personal relevance. The symbolism works on the sub-conscious mind, the gateway to the true essence of self. The symbols in a full tarot deck mysteriously foot this bill.

Within the collective pool of a full deck are all the basic figures found in religions, myths, legends and fairytales. Taken together, and this is a key aspect of tarot, they form a magical storehouse of profound esoteric knowledge. Individually, each figure in the tarot calls forth from a person’s sub-conscious a deep, resonating awareness – awareness of what is and what can be. Collectively they present a full and complete circle of all of life’s energies and the powers of our conscious interaction with them.

In recent times, many new decks have been created. These are full tarot decks centered on some particular theme. For example, there are feminist decks, pop culture decks, decks for the sportsman, children, Christian focused decks, and decks focused on flowers, fairy tales, food and humor just to name a few.

The phrase “not playing with a full deck” implies that someone is not complete in their mental facilities. This rings true of the tarot deck as well – without a full deck the impact of the symbolism, and thus the messages inherent in their spreads and various readings, is seriously lacking its full potential. Yes, a full tarot deck is the only tarot deck.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Free Tarot Reading

Free Tarot Reading

Free tarot readings are everywhere on the internet. The world wide web provides a vast playground for exploration and discovery. The best place to find a free tarot reading is indeed on the internet. You could also get a free tarot reading from yourself if you invest in a deck of tarot cards and the time required to it takes to learn the symbols and meanings of all the pictures in the deck. However, it is hardly “free” if you have to put out your own money for the deck and at least several weeks to learn all the “rules”. Therefore, it is recommended that you take advantage of the hundreds of websites where you can get a free reading in a matter of minutes.

While many sites catch your attention with the word “free”, they draw you in deeper and deeper, one click at a time, only to land you at a place where you are required to pay for the “free” reading after all. Other sites provide you with a free reading at the first click only to discover that the reading is frustratingly vague and scant; the depth of the reading will cost you some mo money. However, truly free tarot readings are readily available if you are willing to search and it is ultimately worth your time and effort to find them.

Many free tarot readings online are associated with other forms of divination such as the I Ching and astrology. It is recommended that you seek a site that is devoted soely to tarot. This is simply because the old adage “jack of all trades, master of none” rings true for methods of divination just like anything else. It is simply better to get a free tarot reading from a specialty site than from a Walmart version of one-stop shopping when it comes to seeking insight into your life.

One site worth mentioning is the newagestore.com. This is a very user-friendly site that gives the illusion that you are in a cool, comfortable room with the gentle sounds of trickling water and soft incense filling your senses. Here you can choose your spread from 7 different spreads, each with a brief description of what can be expected from each one. You can also get a reading of your personal characteristics based either on your name or your birth date. This site also leads you to other areas of occult interest should you want to wander further into freebies.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Free Tarot Spreads

Free Tarot Spreads

Free tarot spreads are readily available on the internet. It is a good idea, however, to inform yourself of the kinds of spreads and the special purposes of each spread before you start your search for free tarot spreads. It is the purpose of this article to do just that – cover some of the more popular spreads in modern tarot.

Generally speaking each position in a spread is assigned a number, and the cards are turned over in that sequence, with each card being contemplated and interpreted before moving on to the next one. Each position is also associated with an interpretation, usually an aspect the question being asked during the reading.

Tarot spreads are used by tarot readers to gain extra information from the cards. Usually, each position in the spread is assigned an area of life to represent such as love, health, work, finances, etc.

How Tarot Spreads Work:
Before a reading is performed, the cards are shuffled by the person receiving the reading. It is believed that the energy of the recipient is transferred to the cards by doing this. Once the cards have been shuffled and cut by the recipient, the reader then lays the cards out in a predetermined pattern called the spread.

In traditional circles of tarot practice, elaborate sorting and separation of the cards followed by complicated patterns to lay them out are quite common. In most circles, however, the spreads are much simpler.

Spreads have specific purposes. Some spreads are designed to address emotional matters while others aim to find answers or solutions to problems and circumstances. Still others focus on future and fortune telling aspects. One of the more common spreads is called the Celtic Cross and it is used for more general purposes, especially to find hints for the answers to questions.

The Celtic Cross uses 10 cards with six used to form the shape of a cross and the remaining four placed vertically beside the cross. The first central card of the cross is considered to be the signifier. The second card represents the conditions surrounding the question being asked by the recipient, and the crossing card usually represents obstacles that must be faced, or crossed, in order to find resolution.

Another common spread is the 3-card spread and this is precisely what is sounds like. It is 3 cards placed from left to right in a straight line. The first card represents the past, indicating whatever it was that created the question at hand; the second card represents the present; and the third card represents the future, making suggestions for change.

Once you are somewhat familiar with the common spreads and their uses and can identify what your own aim is for using the tarot, you are ready to go online and explore the options for free spreads.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Free Love Tarot Readings

Free Love Tarot Readings
For a really good free love tarot reading try www.infiniteadvice.com. The things that are revealed during a reading will trigger your behavior and your choices to do something you might otherwise have completely missed.
Something so seemingly insignificant as walking through the doors of your favorite coffee shop, for example, and noticing for the first time the community bulletin board. While standing there reading the flyers that are posted as you stir the sugar into your coffee, you see the announcement for an event and you decide to go because in your free love tarot reading the Hermit came up as your signifier. The Hermit suggests you regain your independence and listen to your own counsel. So you follow its suggestion and there at the event, you meet someone who then changes the course of your life!
Surly a free love tarot reading is fun and interesting at best. And who knows, it may even be the twist of fate you’ve been searching for! Go ahead, think of it as a fun hobby, take it lightly and enjoy the avenues that open up for you.

You can learn to read tarot cards by either taking an online course or by studying a book on your own. Either way is fairly simple and easily accessible. The key is to not take yourself so seriously that you become bogged down by the plethora of materials out there. You do no harm in taking a light-hearted approach to learning this ancient tool; rather you do yourself a favor by avoiding the intimidation of serious scholars and practitioners.

One good source to use when you first learn to read tarot cards is to begin with the book The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Tarot. Though its title is somewhat derogatory, the information between the covers is both thorough and user-friendly. In addition, it is full of fun and interesting facts, tips, and exercises. The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Tarot begins with the bare basis (though it never implies that you are really an idiot). Even someone already informed on tarot would find its simple language refreshing and interesting. It provides you with key words, word-image associations, and handy tricks to memorize the cards and their meanings.

The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Tarot summarizes the history and traditions of tarot so that you gain an intimate foundation of background knowledge as easily as you would learn the story of an old friend over a cup of coffee. It is important that you have such a background of knowledge because the symbolism in tarot is rooted in tradition.

The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Tarot provides a survey of the different decks and various spreads. Skim this part quickly so you can gat an overview of the variations, but not get stuck in trying to master them all. Choose one that stands out to you as more appealing than any of the others. One deck, one spread, that’s all you need to focus on at the beginning.

Once you have identified the deck and spread you want to learn, dig in. get yourself a deck and just start to play with it. Do not allow yourself to be intimidated by the potentially powerful symbolism. Just familiarize yourself with your new deck. Appreciate the pictures and make associations that will help you memorize the meaning of each card.

Now you are ready to start reading. Remember, for starters, you are only going to work with one spread. Follow the guidelines in the book for the order and placement of the cards and practice on yourself several times. Throughout your learning and practicing process, remember to have fun. Through fun you may become a true believer and move on to a more serious approach to tarot card reading. For starters, however, remember to keep it light because a fun hobby is usually the door to great things.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

The History of Tarot Cards

The History of Tarot Cards

The history of tarot cards is a subject of debate amongst its followers. Some people claim the card game began in China; others argue its origins in India, still others believe it all started in Egypt. All three arguments, however, find the eventual; migration of tarot into Italy and France where there are actual records of its rules, symbols, and uses.

It is believed that although tarot existed long before the 15th century, it was sometime in the mid 1400s that the game of tarot became popular enough amongst the upper classes to produce evidence that today is seen as valid.

It is in Northern Italy and Eastern France where we find the first tarot decks. These decks included four suits of number cards (1-10) in addition to a king, queen, knight, and “special cards” with symbolic pictures of the Wheel of Fortune, Death, and the Moon.

Originally the tarot cards were used to play a game of trumps with the special cards serving as eternal trumps, outranking all the others. It is assumed that the special trumps eventually evolved into a ranking system of their own, thereby giving particular value to the symbols contained in the pictures.

As the game spread throughout Europe, the pictures were changed to reflect the culture and customs of the host country. Though the pictures changed, the artists took note of the particular elements in each picture and were careful to maintain those elements, thus causing a hub-bub around them that heightened their value and meaning.

One objective of tarot history is to trace the changes the cards have undergone throughout the centuries. In so doing, we are able to identify consistent themes indicating a common thread in the human experience. This leads us to believe that the pictures on the cards have a deeper meaning and purpose than merely serving as game pieces.

In early Christianity, all cards were deemed “tools of the devil” because people often replaced church-going with card-playing. The tarot cards were especially considered workings of the devil because of the added quality of the symbolism and hidden meaning. This propelled tarot into the underworld of secret and eventually into the Occult.

Occult, which literally means “hidden world”, was considered “devil’s work” by the established church, primarily because of the mystery surrounding occult beliefs. Even today, the mainstream church poses heavy warnings against the occult for fear of its dangers on the human soul.

Because of its cross-county journeys through the centuries, its varied symbols, and its associations with the occult, tarot cards remain a mystery yet today. The history of tarot cards is a fascinating study and one well worth your time as it is full of rich stories from many exotic places. However, if you prefer a history grounded in facts with supporting evidence, the history of tarot cards should remain for you, a legend of many dimensions.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

How to Interpret Tarot Cards

How to Interpret Tarot Cards

The best way to interpret tarot cards is to combine learned knowledge with instinctual intuition. This is the case whether you are the actual reader or the recipient. If you do not intend to study the tarot, but are interested in taking part in the mystical, magical wonders of its traditions, it is important that you seek out a tarot reader with a reputation for both excellence and accuracy. If you wish to become a reader yourself, focus first on the cards themselves, then practice so you can hone your intuitive skills.

There are many people who interpret tarot cards. Some are serious students with an insatiable thirst for more. One the surface, such people are impressive with their vast knowledge. They may posses great knowledge of tarot card history and legend, and they can even be masters of several different decks. However, if they do not posses the gift of intuition, their knowledge is flat, only interesting at best.

Other people may be highly spiritually attuned, psychics, if you will, but only dabble in tarot. These people will also appear impressive at first meeting. They will be able to zoom into key qualities in your personality and speak with authority about how you are likely to react to certain situation. They will seem to know exactly how you feel about the things in your life. Because they are so insightful and are able to talk freely about tarot cards and their meanings, you may easily assume that they are good readers. Be warned, however, because without an in depth knowledge of the cards, they are likely to miss subtle symbols that just might hold the key to the question at hand during your reading.

Because the ability to intuit is a natural gift, the second kind of person has what it takes to become a master of the tarot. It is up to you and your own intuition then, to decipher the difference.

If you hope to become a reader yourself, consider your ability to “read between the lines,” both literally and figuratively. Do you often see things that others miss? Do you recognize what people really mean when they say something else? And are you a good student? In order to interpret tarot cards accurately, you must love to study and you must consider yourself a student for life.

Clearly, the best way to interpret tarot cards is to find the balance of knowing: the balance between learned knowledge and intuited understanding.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Tarot Card Interpretation

Tarot Card Interpretation

Tarot card interpretation is by no means an easy task. On the other hand, the interpretation of tarot cards is not as difficult as you might first expect, either. If you have a sharp, inquisitive mind, a genuine desire to learn and practice interpretation skills, and a passion for people, tarot card interpretation may be just the thing to do.

The interpretation of tarot cards is not unlike the interpretation of anything else in life. For example, if you belong to a book club, you are already in the habit of conscious interpretation. You interpret the words and behaviors of the characters in the story as you read along, then again when you discuss the book with others. You even interpret the implications of words and behaviors in every day encounters with all sorts of people, whether they are close friends or complete strangers. You may not be conscious of this process of constant interpretations, but it is happening nonetheless.

In the book club example, you may interpret a certain behavior as ill-informed and stupid, but after taking in the comments of others, your perspective changes and you interpret that same behavior as well-calculated bravery. Recognizing the value of others’ interpretations, within boundaries, that is to say, without always conceding to someone else’s interpretation when it differs from your own, is key to tarot card interpretation. The interpretation becomes richer with the input of the person for whom the reading is being done. Any information you gain from the recipient needs to be incorporated into your interpretations.

Throughout the long history of tarot cards, there have been many different interpretations of the symbols. However, general meanings have remained fairly consistent. For example, the Sun card has always represented success and happiness. The art of interpretation lies in the application of such meaning to a particular situation in a person’s life. Say someone who is in the throes of both financial and health problems has the Sun card come up in a reading. You may interpret this to mean that very soon everything will be OK. You may also interpret this same sign, however, to indicate that the person should aim to be grateful, even in the face of such tragedy. You will need to use the input of the person in order to discern which way the cards are meant to be interpreted.

Notice how much you interpret the events in your average day. Notice how analytical you are. Take note, also, of your genuine interest in the affairs of others. If you can see what a major role interpretation has in your life already, you can easily learn to interpret tarot cards. Just add the study aspect to your already existing interpretation skills and you will soon be a master reader.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Tarot card graphics

Tarot card graphics
Tarot card graphics are the pictures on the cards – each deck a miniature art collection. The graphics tell stories, ask questions, and push the mind one direction or another. Tarot card graphics will grow on you and speak to you in different ways at different times. Each tarot card is a graphic display of images that portray people, places, emotions, ideas and abstract concepts. The melding of all these qualities by the mind produces infinite discoveries.
The graphics on the Magician and the High Priestess cards had an interesting impact on an architect. He made a connection between the literal word “architecture”, its deep cognitive implications, and the two tarot cards, the Magician and the High Priestess. To begin, consider the word “architecture.” The Greek roots of architecture are 1) arche, meaning the first inkling, the creation, the first spark of an idea; and 2) techne, meaning to give form to the formless, the making, the putting together of ideas into a creation.
Now consider the meanings of the two tarot cards: 1) the Magician and 2) the High Priestess. The Magician represents creation. This card represents working with the hands as a skilled artist or craftsman, and it implies that opportunities are at hand. The High Priestess represents intuition and inner wisdom. She has to do with giving form to that which is formless.
At a point in his life when he was needing to make a choice of study for his career, a tarot reading presented him with these two cards. Of course there were other cards in his reading, but the graphics on these particular cards caught his attention more than any of the others. He chose architecture and has enjoyed a successful career, but he didn’t fully understand the impact that the graphics had on him at the time. It was only years later, in retrospect, that he revelation became evident to him.
This is an example of how tarot card graphics work on the subconscious mind. You may be looking for specific answers, or you may be simply enjoying the artwork. Nevertheless, it is the combination of the symbols, no matter how subtle, and their graphic presentation on the cards, that will speak to you.
This example of the architect and the role that the tarot card graphics played in leading him to a deeper understanding of his own profession and his place in it is not unique. It is merely an example, one out of millions, of the influences the tarot card graphics have on the human psyche.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Making Your Own Tarot Cards

Making Your Own Tarot Cards

Making your own tarot cards s a fascinating experience. No matter how well you plan or how inspired your ideas are, the actual process of creation takes on an energy of its own. Before you know it, you are tumbling head over heels, heels over head, together with the tarot such that you will not know for sure whether you are making your own tarot cards, or they are making you.

If you have an adventurous spirit and a passion for tarot, however, jump in and give it a try. Just remember that you are committing to the creation of a total of 23 different and very complicated graphics. Whether you are a skilled artist, an art enthusiast, or simply not good at art at all, you should at least admit to the artistic quality required of the cards. You can execute this artistic quality either by your own hand and skill, or you may employ the talents of someone else who will produce your vision. You may also want to play with photography and photo-editing to create your own cards.

Be careful though, not to get so caught up in the art of the cards that you miss what makes a good deck really good. That is, you have to have a background knowledge of the esoteric qualities that shape real tarot. You have to have a special level of discernment in order to know what add to, takes away from, or even hides the light of tarot insights.

Things to consider in making your own tarot cards
1. Take is easy on yourself. Unless you are a professional artist, do not fret over the need for perfect images. Aim to see your cards with loving eyes.
2. Consider how you use tarot. Do you use reversed cards? If so, you will want to be sure to use a card stock paper with a design on the back so that your backs are all universal and not likely to give away what the card is. You could also stencil or stamp the backs of your cards, so long as they are uniform.
3. Size matters. You should make your cards a size and shape that is comfortable for you, regardless of how they might feel to others. Play around with different sizes and practice the shuffling and handling so you can be sure of your decision.
4. Materials – use high quality materials in the creation of your cards so they will endure the course of time without fading, smearing, tearing, etc. Because you will be investing so much of your time and energy into this project, it is only natural that you will want the deck to survive lots of use.

Before you begin to make your own tarot cards, spend some time browsing book stores (used bookstores are great for this activity) and searching online for more tips and ideas. Most of all, get ready for an incredible encounter with your very own living deck!

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Learn to Read Tarot Cards

Learn to Read Tarot Cards

Learn to read tarot cards and you can be the life of the party!

Learn How to Read Tarot Cards Online

Learn How to Read Tarot Cards Online

At tarot.com you can learn online how to read tarot cards. Print tarot cards are decks with only the outline of the images, no color. Print tarot cards can be found in nearly every style of tarot, though they are more readily available in the more popular decks such as the Ride-Waite or the themed cards such as a feminist deck.

Why would you want a deck of print tarot cards when there are so many beautifully designed sets already full of rich, vibrant color? Put simply, print tarot cards are the most effective way to become familiar with the complex symbolism of the tarot deck. If you think about it, what better way to become intimately involved with the plethora of intricate and subtle details found in each card than to pour yourself over the symbols and initiate them with your own colors.

Carefully coloring your own cards will allow you to see every detail, helping to develop the intuitive insight necessary to fully realize the potential of your cards. The deck you create will be unique. Unlike any other deck, this deck will have your personal stamp on it.

First you need to obtain a set of print tarot cards. You can find them at specialty stores or online. Ideally it is best to find them at specialty stores simply because they are such a personal thing, you will want to see them and touch them before owning them.

Once you have your colorless deck, you are ready to begin the fun part. Using colored pencils begin coloring in the parts. Layer the colors or enhance them with water colors, glitter, or even other mediums such as foil, decorative paper, yarns, beads, etc.

When your deck is completed, you can preserve your work in a couple of ways. You may want to spray each card with a sealer. If you do this, spray on several layers, allowing plenty of time to dry completely between each application. You may also choose to laminate your cards. You can do this at any office supply store for a minimal cost. Another way to preserve your cards is to scan them and then print them on card stock paper. In this case, you would use the printed deck and keep the original deck for display only.

Working with your own deck of cards in such a creative spirit is a great way to make the cards your own – to know them like you know yourself and to saturate the deck with your energy. Print tarot cards are a wonderful version of the many different decks and no two print decks are ever the same.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Tarot Card Meanings

Tarot Card Meanings

Tarot card meanings are as varied as the styles and pictures n the various decks. Like any skill or art, learning to read tarot cards is more about interest, desire, passion and practice than about memorization and rules. If you truly want to become adept at reading tarot cards, the learning will come as a joy.

First, choose a deck. It is best to shop around until you find a deck that has pictures that inspire you, feels good in your hands, and with a shape that appeals to you.

Once you have a deck in your possession, spend time with it. Shuffle it and, one by one, look at the pictures. Notice what you see. It is a good idea to write down the details that you see. You do not want to rush through the deck because each picture is so rich with color, intricate patterns, and minute details that you would easily miss these things even with a lingering glance.

Once you have described and contemplated what you find on each card, go through the deck again and make meaningful associations for each image. What does the image say to you? Assign a personal meaning to each card. Again, it is a good idea to write down your impressions, preferably along side the initial writing you did when you described the picture in detail.

In learning to read tarot cards, the third think you want to do is read about the pictures. Used book stores are a great source for this kind of material. You can find a book or articles online about your particular deck. Because you are now familiar with your deck and have made personal associations with each of the pictures, you are ready for more traditional learning. Read about the ancient meanings and the accepted interpretations. Write key words and phrases in your notes for each picture. Notice how your initial impressions correspond or differentiate from the traditional interpretations.

Repeat this procedure many times over the course of several weeks until you have memorized the traditional interpretations and are comfortable with the assimilation of your personal, intuitive interpretations. When you feel confident in your ability to identify consistent meanings to each of the cards, you are ready for the next step in learning to read tarot cards.

The next step is to learn about the different spreads and how to “read” the relationship of one card to another. Just as there are many different decks, there is a variety of spreads from which to choose. The Celtic cross is recommended for beginners.

Again, find a book or articles online about reading the Celtic cross spread. Because you already have knowledge and skill to intuit meanings for each individual card, learning to relate one to the next and so on will come relatively easily.

Follow these instructions and practice a reading on yourself and close friends and before you know it, you will have learned how to read tarot cards!

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Sample Tarot Spreads

Sample Tarot Spreads

There are so many different kinds of tarot card spreads in existence that is can be very difficult to decide which to learn and which to use. Therefore, it is a good idea to look at one or two as a sample so you can get a handle on just how spreads work and why you might favor one over another.

Two spreads that are both effective and easy to use, the Celtic Cross and the 12 Card Spread, will be described here.

The Celtic Cross is a type of tarot reading that gives you a character sketch, a personality profile, as it were, of the recipient. The Celtic Cross provides you a representative slice of the person. It is like a photograph, a stop-action view, not a whole movie. This type of reading is good for people, but not for situations. It is a great way to get a quick personality profile which may be useful for you as a reference at a later reading. It is not so good for answering questions.

The 12 Card spread is suitable for reading people, situations, businesses, financial concerns, relationships and other situations that involve more than one person. The 12 Card spread shows past, present, and future aspects, thereby allowing you to better track cause and effect chains rather effectively. Known to be an incredibly flexible spread, some people even claim it can be sued to trace your history back through all your past lives!

Other spreads worth mentioning include the 1-card spread, the 3-card spread, the 4-card spread, the horseshoe spread, and tetractys. The 1-card spread, simple as it is, should be used for simple yes/no questions, card of the day inspirations, or as a prompt for meditation. The 3-card spread is a fairly direct interpretation of 1) past events that influenced a person or situation; 2) present circumstances, and 3) future events that represent the outcome of a given situation. The 4-card spread has the following implications: 1) what you desire; 2) skills and talents that you posses; 3) blockages or what is lacking; and 4) obtaining what you desire.

The Horse-shoe spread is a very common spread used for asking questions. In this spread, seven cards are arranged in a “V” shape. The cards from left to right represent 1) past; 2) present; 3) influences; 4) obstacles; 5) expectations, hopes or fears; 6) the best course of action; and 7) probable outcomes or resolutions.

Tetractys are the layout of 10 cards arranged in rows of four, making a pyramid. Each row represents Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Each card within the row also has a specific meaning within that element. The single card at the top of the pyramid is the signifier.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Tarot Card Reading Instructions

Tarot Card Reading Instructions

Before you begin the steps in the following tarot card reading instructions, it is important that you carefully choose your own deck of tarot cards. There are many styles and designs to choose from, so spend ample time exploring until you find a deck that you like more than all the others. Then, spend time with the deck so you can saturate it with your personal energies and so that the energies in the images of your cards can seep into your psyche. Finally, learn the assigned meanings and association for each picture. Now you are ready to begin!

1. Separate the Major Arcana from the Minor. Shuffle each set of cards and cut them. Then lay them out in rows of 3 across; 7 down; one to the side. This will use all the Major Arcana. Some of the Minor Arcana will be unused. Set these aside.
2. Look at the pictures on the cards in the pattern you laid out before you. Write down one word for each card that first comes to your mind when you look at the picture.
3. Identify a pattern in the images so you can form a story as if you are looking at a picture book without words. You may form a story from left to right, then up to down; or you may begin with the vertical line and then continue to the horizontal line. The one card to the side does not have to fit into the story other than the fact that it is the most important and may therefore represent the key or solution to the story.
4. What situation in the life of the recipient is brought out by the symbols on the cards? Identify that situation. This may require some conversation with your recipient.
5. With the circumstances of the recipient in front focus, look again to the narrative of the pictures laid out before you. Look for a twist on the story that would make the circumstances come out both better and worse.
6. Look again at the words you wrote down for each card. Notice how the words can apply to either the better or the worse scenario for the person who is receiving the reading.
7. Discuss these possibilities with the recipient. Show him/her how the cards reveal possible avenues s/he can take concerning the immediate situation.

You may be surprised how your personal intuition, combined with the assigned meanings for the cards, can reveal a much more accurate reading than simply following the instructions that came with your deck. When you have a connection with your deck and employ your own energies toward a reading, you will quickly become adept at tarot card readings.

It is simply better to get a free tarot reading from a specialty site than from a Wal-Mart version of one-stop shopping when it comes to seeking insight into your life.

Reading Tarot Cards

Reading Tarot Cards

The reading of tarot cards has been around for centuries. Today they are read by people from all walks of life and all educational, socioeconomic and religious backgrounds. The reading of tarot cards takes place in private homes, at parties, at festivals, in college dorm rooms and in the offices of psychics. Reading tarot cards is both a fun activity and a serious inquiry into one’s life journey.

Reading tarot cards is an activity that combines random choice with informed interpretation. The person receiving a reading chooses a number of cards from the deck. The number is dependent on the kind of reading taking place. The choice is believed to be guided by an inner energy – a subconscious level of knowing that the conscious mind can not recognize. The reader then, interprets the symbols on the chosen cards to reveal significant insight to the recipient.

Reading tarot cards has become popular again in the last few decades in modern mainstream culture. It is easy to find a psychic in any community – large or small -0 where you can schedule a private reading. These can cost anywhere from $30.00 to $100.00 and usually last about an hour. In a private session like this, you are free to ask questions that probe deeper into the meaning of the symbols on the cards and find more specific relevance to the circumstances in your life at the time of the reading.

Tarot card readings are also readily available at summer and fall festivals across the country. You can buy barbeque chicken, handmade jewelry, and get your tarot cards read all in an afternoon stroll. These readings cost between $5.00 and $20.00 and usually last no more than 20 minutes. This is because they take place outside, under a canopy, and there is usually a line of people waiting their turn. Though less intimate than a private reading in an office, the insight revealed by the symbols is no less meaningful to the recipient. Even at a crowded festival, the cards can speak volumes through a skilled interpreter.

Reading tarot cards is something you can also learn to do yourself. There are books, online courses, home-study guides, and physical schools where you can gain the necessary information. More than a commitment to study, becoming skilled at reading tarot cards requires practice most of all. The more you do it, the better you become at intuiting meanings which is really what makes the difference between a good and an excellent reader.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com

Suits in Tarot Cards

Suits in Tarot Cards

The suits in the Tarot play an important role in reading and interpreting the cards. A basic starting point for any serious student of the Tarot is to become familiar with the four suits of the Minor Arcana and to understand what they mean. The four suits are: 1) Wands, 2) Cups; 3) Swords, and 4) Coins. The fully understand the differences between the Ace of Wands and the Ace of Coins, for example, the reader needs to know the essence of the suit that a particular card belongs to along with its individual meaning.

The Minor Arcana cards represent people, everyday situations, and the events along the path of your life. These compliment the energy represented by the Major Arcana which shows the actual life journey. The four suits correspond to the many systems of four devised by humans over the generations: four directions (north, south, east and west); four elements (fire, water, air and earth); four functions of the mind (thinking, feeling, sensation and intuition).

The following chard lists the four suits and their corresponding elements:

Wands
Direction:South
Element:Fire
Season:Summer
Mind Function: Intuition

Cups
Direction:West
Element:Water
Season:Autumn
Mind Function: Feelings

Swords
Direction:East
Element:Air
Season:Spring
Mind Function: Thinking

Coins
Direction:North
Element:Earth
Season:Winter
Mind Function: Sensation

When you think of Wands, think of fire. In some decks, the wands may even be portrayed with flames coming out of their ends. Couple this with images of passion, desire, dynamic force, ambitions, creativity, vitality, self-development, growth and perception. Wands represent the forward energy that is active in inventing.

When you think of Cups, think of the deep and mysterious essence of water. Many styles of decks incorporate images of water and floating objects in their designs. Cups cards Cups represent emotions, psychic and intuitive arts, fantasy and illusion, fertility, spirituality, grace and serenity.

When you think of Swords, think of the mental strategies required of great swordsmen. Swords represent our minds, including our abilities to consider, contrast and compare, weigh evidence and make decisions. Swords are strong and can connote conflict, pain, anger and aggression.

When you think of coins, think of…, well, shopping! Coins represent the material aspects of our lives – our finances, possessions, accomplishments, business, land, home, and level of abundance. Coins also represent our bodies and our connection to the Earth and Nature. Coins represent our strengths and talents, but they can also represent material loss or the negative effects of material obsessions as well as low self-esteem.

The suits in Tarot give placement to the other cards in the cosmic realm. They color and shape the qualities and characteristics of the symbols and numbers to which they belong.

Copyright 2008, InfiniteAdvice.com
